Blake Griffin is elevating the Clippers to new heights

Image
Coming into this season, the Los Angeles Clippers figured to slide a bit after Chris Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets for a first-round draft pick, some cash, and a bevy of role players .   And yet, here we are, four games into the season and the Clippers have been the best team in the NBA. In the season opener, Patrick Beverley tormented rookie Lonzo Ball and kept the now 2-2 Lakers under 100 points, the only team to do so  thus far . The following game, the Clippers blew the roof off of Staples Center by hammering the Phoenix Suns, 130-88. The 42-point margin of defeat wasn’t even Phoenix’s worst loss of the young season, as the Portland Trail Blazers manhandled them 124-76 in the season opener (keep that tidbit in mind). Game three featured a strong second-half showing after a slow start, with the Clippers eventually making posters out of the Utah Jazz. And last night, in the team’s first true road game of the season, the Clippers pulled out...

Welcome to Pegulaville

Three years ago today, the Buffalo Bills were sold to Terry and Kim Pegula.  To commemorate the third anniversary of the sale, please enjoy this piece I wrote on October 14, 2014 to express my feelings about it. ********************************************** My entire life, I have been told many things; there is such a thing as too much chocolate in your chocolate milk, you can’t wear gym shorts when it’s cold outside, and that the Buffalo Bills would skip town before I died. Unlike the first two points, I actually believed the third one. Using half a container of Nesquik in one sitting was the norm, and comfort always trumped cold, but it was almost a foregone conclusion in my mind and in just about everyone else’s that the Bills would leave to go to a more popular market like Los Angeles. When Ralph Wilson passed away in March, those fears were amplified. The uncertainty of not knowing how much longer they’d be around was a constant point of worry. Then, after months o...

Bills make pair of surprise moves

I didn’t watch the Bills’ preseason game last night, so I don’t know what the team looked like or how well they did. All I know is they lost 17-10 against a team that has also gone 0-4 in Super Bowl appearances. So when I got a tweet (follow @RPK2@KU ) and one of my co-workers asked what was going on at the EXACT SAME MOMENT, I just said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Look, I don’t know what to make of the new GM or the new coach, and none of us will until they start playing regular season games with real weight to them. But Sammy Watkins has been around for a few years now and they’ve had the chance to see him up close, so my first guess is they know something about his foot that we don’t. And if we don’t know it, chances are the Rams don’t either. Personally I don’t see Watkins blooming with Jared Goff throwing to him, or with anybody throwing to him. I liked the kid but if he can’t stay healthy he just eats up a roster spot and a hefty salary. Good for the Bills to move that along. That said, ...
