‘You’re the Worst’ is the latest show I can’t stop watching
* Possible spoiler alerts ahead *
I just watched the season three finale of ‘You’re the Worst’
and I have sooooooooo many thoughts.
My first impression of the show was that it was incredible
that I could both love and hate every
single character simultaneously. The story lines are unfathomably complex
and relatable and ridiculous and hilarious and straining. It’s like if ‘How I
Met Your Mother’ went to college. And it’s spectacular.
The show centers on Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya
Cash) as well as Edgar (Desmin Borges), Lindsay (Kether Donohue), Paul (Allan
McLeod), and to a lesser extent, Becca (Janet Varney) and Vernin (Todd Robert
Anderson). Jimmy and Gretchen pride themselves on being flawed human beings as
their initial one-night stand blossoms into a relationship version of a corpse
flower.
Along the way, they battle mental health issues, intimacy
issues, and trust issues while ignoring the same problems in their friends and
families. But there’s something so endearing about them that it’s hard to get
mad at them for being [air quotes] the worst.
I don’t want to give a lot away here. I just think the show is
absolute dynamite. The final scene in season three was F@&#!*% ABSURD
and it put a knot in my stomach but I’m hooked so hard. Instead of giving you more
words, I’ll just show you some clips and call it a day:
September 6, wy@ tho?
